Our commitment
Parachute Design Group builds websites that people of all abilities can use. We hold our own website to the standard we set for client work.
Conformance status
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content usable for people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, hearing, motor and cognitive disabilities.
Our website partially conforms to WCAG 2.2 AA. Some content does not yet meet every success criterion. We list the gaps we know about below and are working to close them.
How we build for accessibility
Accessibility on this site is built into the code and the content. We design and test against WCAG 2.2 AA, which covers:
- Semantic HTML: headings, landmarks, lists and form labels that assistive technology can read.
- Full keyboard operation, with a visible focus indicator.
- Colour contrast that meets WCAG 2.2 AA ratios.
- Text alternatives written by people for images that carry meaning.
- Layouts that stay usable when text is enlarged and on mobile devices.
We test with automated tools, including axe DevTools, WAVE and Lighthouse, then follow with a manual review that includes keyboard-only navigation. Automated tools catch only part of the issues, so the manual review carries our conformance assessment.
Why we do not use accessibility overlays
This website does not use an accessibility overlay, and we removed the one we previously ran. Overlays are third-party scripts that attempt to repair a website in the browser after it loads. They leave the underlying code unchanged, they can interfere with the screen readers and browser settings people already rely on, and they cannot bring a website into conformance with WCAG on their own.

Your browser, operating system and assistive technology already let you change text size, colour and contrast, and have content read aloud. We build this site to work with the tools you have chosen.
Compatibility
This website is designed to work with current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge, and with common screen readers, including JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver and TalkBack.
Ontario accessibility requirements
Parachute is based in Toronto and supports the goals of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). Section 14 of the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation, Ontario Regulation 191/11, requires designated public sector organizations and large organizations to make their public websites conform to WCAG 2.0 Level AA. Our WCAG 2.2 AA target exceeds that standard.
